Apparently, paying for a dating website is all I really needed to get my ass moving.
I was a member of okcupid for over a year, but I only ever emailed about 4 guys without them contacting me first. I hated the "wink" things, wouldn't answer someone if they spelled something wrong - basically, my sister was right, I blew guys off A LOT.
I joined match.com maybe 3 days ago, and I already have emailed like 8 or 10 guys. I am looking at who is viewing me and "winking" at them or emailing the ones that seem interesting, come up as my matches, and/or have winked/emailed me. A lot of them are attractive and seem very interesting and intelligent! I'm kind of surprised, actually, considering the lack of interesting people I managed to find on okcupid.
There is one person in particular that I have been exchanging some emails with. He's 31 *gasp* which I always thought was a little old for me (Only 5 years though. I'm not as young as I seem to think I am, I guess). In the past, I would be like "Oh, he's too old. Not interested." AKA I would have blown him off. However, since one of my New Year's resolutions is to not blow off perfectly nice guys - I'm going to do just that.
Let's just say that paying for a site is a surefire way to make sure I use it.
